This week we heard from Typto, Summoner of DAOSquare, an incubator for web3 that helps pioneers deal with token economy solutions, technology innovation, community operating and more!
DAOSquare: The Origin Story
Typto’s background is extensive and impressive. He graduated from college with a degree in music and moved to Beijing to become an independent musician before recognizing that while he was getting big opportunities to score music for movies and TV shows, he repeatedly had to make music that he didn’t like. He decided that only by becoming a director could he present his ideas to an audience on his own accord and spent the next three years teaching himself film and screenwriting. Typto went on to win multiple awards for his screenplays from the Chinese National Film Bureau before choosing to leave the film industry, again to maintain his own principles. After a career in both music and film, he was introduced to the Ethereum space and recognized that DAOs were a way in which people could maintain their own values while working collaboratively in community.
On December 5, 2019, Typto wrote a word on a piece of paper: “DAOSquare.” He wanted to solve the problem of “996,” a work schedule requiring employees of certain Chinese companies to work from 9am to 6pm, 6 days a week. He recognized this as an immense social issue and was frustrated by how little personal growth existed within this model. “With DAOSquare, I wanted to link up people who are thoughtful, interesting, and unwilling to be ordinary to achieve what they think is valuable. And in the process, everyone can grow personally.” Typto’s desire was to create a DAO that uplifted individual value rather than sacrificing it. He found his way into communities like MolochDAO and MetaCartel (also a Panvala League member!) who helped him push DAOSquare’s vision forward. “It started with me alone. I began to write and translate articles and more and more people joined DAOSquare—we started to grow.” In 2020, DAOSquare held the first DAO hackathon in China and realized it was time to create the structure for an incubator based on the concept of Web3.
A Web3 Incubator for All
“I always believed that the essence of an incubator for Web3 is to build a resource network that benefits everyone.” Typto expressed that DAOSquare’s innovators are not just for-profit projects, but also projects for public goods. He stated that he would love to see the Panvala community get involved. “Panvala has undoubtedly built an amazing resource network, and there are so many awesome organizations and people in the Panvala community. They are experts in a variety of fields, including technology, economics, product development, entrepreneurial experience, and more.” He expressed that he would love to see any of these organizations and people can come together to support DAOSquare’s innovators and help them build better products. “DAOSquare belongs to all those who love the DAOSquare philosophy and fight for it. So far, we have over 80 members. I hope more awesome people join us!”
